Visit of The Canadian High Commissioner to Tiko

THE VISIT OF THE CANADIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER TO THE TIKO MUNICIPALITY
It was a rare occasion and a once in a lifetime ceremony as we welcomed the Canadian high commissioner His Excellency Jean Pierre Lavoie to our very own municipality. His visit which was scheduled for the 26th of February 2009, was a follow-up to a collaboration agreement between the Canadian Executive Service Overseas (CESO) and the Tiko Rural Council all geared towards the development of the Tiko Municipality and the bettering of the lives of its inhabitants.
This being an appropriate avenue for partnership and networking, MPYRAA was at the forefront of the preparations for the presentation stand of the Social Welfare Thematic Group (TIMBOCSO), as we readily made available a display board and provided other necessary materials for presentation. MPYRAA being the sole youth centered organization within the municipality, rallied youths to the event. In conjunction with our vision, that of building a strong and durable coalition through collaboration and networking, we were glad to be part of a larger network of other NGO’s some of which include, POOREST OF THE POOR FOUNDATION, HOTPEC, HAADPOD,KOEL,  just to mention these few.
The event was majorly characterized by the installation of the Tiko Development Committee whose honorary president is HE Jean Pierre Lavoie and they have as major task to implement the strategic development plan of Tiko as outlined in the master plan. Other activities that marked the day were visits to the collapsed bridge at Street 7, camps at Miselele, Orphanages and other areas needing immediate intervention.

As usual his excellency made pertinent remarks and emphasized that they are not here to perform any miracles but to provide the necessary and much needed assistance in terms of expertise and possible funding to turn Tiko into an exemplary town.

The event was concluded with an interactive session at the Tiko Gulf Club that ended with some light refreshment.
MPYRAA looks forward to exploit every possible and available opportunity that this visit might have opened to the people of Tiko as we are eager to contribute our fair quota to this developmental process. Consequently, a series of projects and activities have been designed to facilitate community involvement and increase awareness on issues concerning youths within the Municipality. Already MPYRAA has achieved tremendous success through its Youth To Youth program that runs in all the secondary schools within the Tiko municipality. Through this program, we have been able to raise measurable awareness on issues relating  to youths such as, HIV/AIDS, career orientation, youth entrepreneurship amongst others.
