Human Rights
In the early past before the world wars, human dignity was not a topical issue. The rights to life, education, good health existed to an extent but wasn’t really codified and widespread. Slavery was the order of the day in our continent which was even nicknamed the Dark Continent. No iota of human dignity was accorded to inhabitants of the Dark Continent. By the end of the 2nd world war, the reality of who a human being is became unavoidably evident.
Human rights are simply rights and freedom to which every human being is entitled. The Universal declaration of Human Rights of 10th December 1948 clearly spells out the areas to be protected which have been emphasized in subsequent covenants.
MPYRAA in its full meaning MOVEMENT FOR THE PROMOTION OF YOUTH RIGHTS AND HIV/AIDS AWARENESS seeks to advocate for the rights of the youths to education, good health, good environment, the right not to be subjected to inhumane and degrading treatments. We also advocate against child labour and child trafficking.
MPYRAA as can be read on other pages or links, has done a lot and is still doing same on education, health, the environment and in other areas to guarantee the rights of children.
MPYRAA also uses seminars, workshops, symposia to educate the public on human rights in general and children rights in particular. MPYRAA is also in this light willing and anxious to liaise with interested groups nationally and internationally in an arduous task of creating societies free of human rights violations.
MPYRAA also seek to continue its activities by networking with Government structures to give it a proper locus standi to drag perpetrators of human rights violation against children to ordinary courts so as to have them tried and judged. This we believe will act as a deterrent to future ill-mannered actions towards youths. MPYRAA craves the indulgence of everyone to remember that our leaders of tomorrow are our present day youths.
