PROEJCT 1 TITLE : Building Capacity for Rural –urban Youths and Women in HIV/AIDS Related Issues.Project Background:
The identified training options are intended to promote more positive attitudes to HIV/AIDS Education, Prevention, Control, Management of Infections and Care and Support for people living with HIV/AIDS. Thus, it is our over-riding commitment to create awareness on the various approaches that are feasible, and to consider how different options can be made more widely available to rural-urban infected populations.
HIV now ranks as one of the most serious global health ailments, and if left unchecked, will soon be the fastest forward –drive to diseases and dead worldwide.
Since the occurrence of HIV /AIDS some 20 years ago, the virus had spread to every region of the world and almost every country. By the end of 2007, it was estimated that over 32.2 million people have been infected, and of these, almost 2.1 million had already died just in 2007 (WHO and UNAIDS 2007).
Today, youths and women in our resource –poor settings are the most vulnerable population segments, while the rate of prevalence associated thereto has more than tripled over the years and is becoming too alarming.
Thus, the identification and implementation of effective ways to address the care and support needs of PLWAs in our rural - urban localities is a cause for concern that demands a multisectoral intervention, especially the support from developed countries and external donors.
Project Rationale:
It would be an over statement to hold/ declare that our target communities are HIV/AIDS free. Thus, an initiative of this nature: Training Of Trainers (TOT) is needed by almost all existing population segments in our localities, given the increasing death rate and degree of orphanage in affected families. Consequently, opinion leaders, religious authorities, and stakeholders, children, youths, women and men alike need this training.
The project has viable potentials of ensuring good health in terms of the expected labour force to boost productive activities and it is sustainable because it has the tendency to safeguard the lives of future generations.
Conclusively, the said project is a priority need to our target population /communities.
Expected Results:
It is expected that by the end of ten months: -
- 2 training seminars of 4 days duration will be organized and run/held by MPYRAA in favour of youths.
- 2 workshops of 3 days duration shall be organized and run by MPYRAA for rural-urban women.
